Since we moved into our new house about a year and a half ago our phone service tells us that we will be charged for redials. How is this possible? How do they know that you used redial to call someone instead of putting it in manually?

I’m currently using verizon’s highspeed internet. But the phone landline costs 30 dollars, and I don’t even use it. I want to cancel my phone service, but i need it for internet. Is there an alternative to using a phone company for internet? I don’t have cabel nor direct tv so I don’t know what the dealio is for their company. Would I need to have cabel TV in order to get high speed internet?

Also does Roadrunner need a phoneline to work? It’s also only 5mbps compared to my 100mbps currently with verizon, does that mean its slower? If it is, then I’m definately NOT getting it.
